According to a statement by the Ooni’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the event was founded as a sister event to Africa Fashion Week London, the biggest festival of African Fashion in the UK by Princess Ronke Ademiluyi who doubles as CEO of the Adire Oodua Textile Industry.
The Arole Oduduwa will alongside the First Lady of Kwara State, Amb. (Mrs.) Abdulrazaq hosted other dignitaries to a warm closing session of the event where over 60 designers will be showcasing their works.
Otunba Olafare explained that “Africa Fashion Week Nigeria now in its 8th year continues promoting African fashion culture globally, with the sole aim of showcasing African creatives and indigenous textiles such as Adire on the global stage.
“Africa Fashion Week Nigeria 2021 was held in the ancient city of Ile-Ife at the Ojaja Arena, while the forthcoming 022 will be held at the Eko Hotel in Lagos.
“This will dovetail into the 12th Edition of Africa Fashion Week London taking place on the 7th and 8th of October in celebration of Black History Month and the theme is experiencing the Adire Culture.
“An Adire Pavillion sponsored by EcoBank will be declared open by HIM the custodian of cultures and traditions
“In partnership with Nigeria’s fashion powerhouse Lagos Fashion Fare headed by Mr. Ayo Olugbade, AFWN 2022 promises the deliver a never before seen African fashion event right here in Lagos. Features renowned designers from Nigeria, the likes of Kunle Afolanyan’s Ire Clothing, AdirestylesNG, HardleySeen, Fashion by Ashani, KaffyKreates, and KolaKudus.
“Also the President of Fadan will be leading a collective of Fadan Designers and a mix of designer brands from other African countries such as Nivaldo Thierry from Mozambique, YawsCreations from The Gambia.”
