Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Tuesday 27th July 2021 welcomed the Senate Committee on Privatisation who were on an oversight visit to the Company's corporate Headquarters in Marina, Lagos. The Senate Committee was led by its Chairman, Senator Theodore Orji commended the Company for its cooperation and stated that its mission was to carry out its oversight duty and review the performance of the Disco as well as hear their concerns in a bid to find lasting solutions to them which will in turn lead to improved performance. The Chairman of the Committee was accompanied by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Senator Adelere Oriolowo and a member of the Committee, Senator Isah Jibrin. Representing the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) at the event were Toibudeen Oduniyi, Director of Post Transaction Management; Joseph Anwoh, Head of Stakeholder and External Relations; Hajia Maimuna and Bashir Sani. Isah Jibrin during the Senate Committee's oversight visit to the Company on Tuesday July 27, 2021 at its headquarters in Marina, Lagos. The Committee was received by the MD/CEO of EKEDC, Adeoye Fadeyibi alongside two Directors; Ernest Oji and Dere Otubu as well as the Management team of the Company. Fadeyibi in his address highlighted major innovations by the Company such as the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System – Distribution Management System (SCADA-DMS) and the Geographic Information System (GIS) which are effectively used in providing real time asset management and reliable service delivery. 'These are testaments to our status as the leading Disco in the country', he said. He further thanked the Government for their effort so far in the power sector. He urged the Committee for more support in terms of legislation to set up special courts on electricity in curbing the menace of energy theft, debt recovery from the MDAs which is now about N21bn, among others. In his comment, the Chairman of the Senate Committee, Senator Theodore Orji commended Eko Disco for its performance in infrastructural development, metering as well as providing employment opportunities to many Nigerians. He explained that the Committee, as earlier stated, is on oversight duty which is to interface with electricity distribution companies for the purpose of national development. Orji assured Eko Disco that the concerns as raised by its MD/CEO will be taken to the Senate for further actions.
